Brenda Lee Frederick Matt, age 74, of Lake Charles, LA, passed away on Thursday January 11, 2024. Brenda was born on April 10, 1949 in Lake Charles to Victor and Ina Frederick. She graduated from LaGrange High School in 1968. She was married to Vilton Matt shortly after and they were married for 39 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vilton and many other beloved family members.
Brenda leaves behind her two daughters, Shontel LeDoux and husband Ross of New Orleans and Tara Lynn Corman and husband Carl of Lake Charles. As well as four grandchildren, Madison Jade LeDoux of Dallas, TX, Regan McKenzie LeDoux of Baton Rouge, LA, Coen Azery Corman and Che Alexander Corman of Lake Charles.
She spent her adult life working in the field of education. She worked as a paraprofessional for Calcasieu Parish Schools for many years and upon early retirement from the system she began working to support educators with the Louisiana Federation of Teachers working tirelessly to help establish the Calcasieu Federation in her area. She retired from the LFT in 2016 after working as a Field Representative for more than 20 years.
Brenda enjoyed life and was passionate about her family, especially her grandchildren who called her Meme. She loved dancing, crafting, gardening and traveling, always open for new experiences. She also enjoyed helping the less fortunate and always considered herself to be blessed in life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on January 27, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. and a Celebration of Life immediately after at Pujo St Café, 901 Ryan st. A private graveside service will be held at a later date and cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
