Mary Jolene (Beaugh) David, 79, of Lake Charles, was called home by Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd, at 3:52 AM on Friday, April 06, 2018.
Mrs. David was born on February 1, 1939 in Church Point, LA where she lived until moving to Opelousas at the age of 3. After getting married in 1957, she lived in Crestview, FL until her husband fulfilled his commitment to the United States Air Force. The couple made Lake Charles their home in 1962. In her earlier years she was a PBX telephone operator for South Central Bell. After working part-time at S&M True Value Stamps, she began a 20 year career with Lakeside Bank before retiring after 10 years of service with Stockwell Sievert Law Firm. Jolene was a faithful member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven where she sang in the choir. She also sang in the Messiah Chorus for more than 40 years.
Her husband of over 60 years, Warren F. David, provided her the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mother to her children, Dean David, Jan Ferris Davidson, Laura Dunn Fallin, and Bryan David. As a young mother at 19 and the years to follow, Jo and Warren did their best to teach their children discipline, love of God, a habit of nighttime prayers, Sunday morning mass, and a Catholic education. Her children's memories of a happy and carefree childhood are a testament to her efforts to ensure that they were well cared for and loved.
There are few who did not benefit from Jolene’s generosity or talents as she was quick to sew or crochet a baby gift, always willing to make a delicious pork roast or bake brownies with her grandchildren. She never turned away a stray or injured animal and was devoted to her pets.
Jolene’s kind heart and compassion were never more evident as when she took on the care of her father-in-law and her own father in their declining years. She was giving, patient and tireless in her efforts to provide them quality of life until their last breath.
Although Jolene’s good deeds were many, it is her family’s belief that it is only through God's grace and unfailing forgiveness that she has been accepted into His Kingdom. Jolene's family rests now in their faith and knowledge that she is at peace with our Lord. They will miss her greatly.
Her absence will be grieved by Dean and his wife, Selene Faulk David, of Lake Charles and their children, Michelle David Phillips, wife of Paul Phillips; Amanda Berry Ortiz; Amber David Heinen; Blue David; and Henry Buck; Jan Davidson and her husband, Joel M. Davidson, of Lake Charles and their children, Gina Claire Cook, wife of Jeremy Cook; and Joseph Davidson, husband of Chelsey Davidson; Laura Dunn Fallin and her husband, Tommy Fallin, of Magnolia, Arkansas and her children, Christopher Dunn, husband of Lindsey Dunn and his brothers Stephen and Jeffery Dunn; Bryan David and his wife Vicki Burge David, of Southlake, Texas and their children Olivia and Isabella David. Jo's many great-grandchildren, some of whom live far away and may not have had the opportunity to have experienced a close and intimate relationship with her or may be too young to remember her or understand her passing will have to rely on our memories and pictures shared in the years to come.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mabel and Joseph Beaugh.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Monday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until leaving for the church at 10:30 AM.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
