Mercedean M. “Dean” Mayes, 89, of Lake Charles, passed away at her place of residence on August 11, 2016.
She was a resident of Lake Charles where she lived most of her life. During her lifetime, she was a Pink Lady at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital and held several positions at the American Legion W.B. Williamson Post 1 of Lake Charles.
She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and working word puzzles of all kinds. In her free time she watched John Wayne movies.
She was preceded in her death by her husband, Edwyn Clay Mayes; daughter, Lydia Ruth Dillon; as well as her mother and father, Gertie and Durand Manuel.
Dean is survived by her daughters, Elaine Mayes of Columbia, Missouri, and Sue Barton of Lafayette, Louisiana; her son, Mike Mayes of Lake Charles, LA; her brother, Huey Manuel of Lake Charles; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Brockner of Olla, LA; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and a nephew and a niece.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 AM on Sunday, August 14, 2016 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Private burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Saturday from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue on Sunday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
