Peggy Huber Caire

August 7, 1926 — November 17, 2016

Margaret “Peggy” Huber Caire, 90, died Thursday, November 17, 2016, in Alpharetta, Georgia, following a lengthy illness.

 

Born to Harry Huber and Julia Watkins Huber, Mrs. Caire lived in Lake Charles until the past three years of her life.  She was a 1943 graduate of Lake Charles High School, where she was a Kiltie Colonel, Homecoming Queen and Debutante.  She attended Stephens College from 1943-1944 and graduated from Louisiana State University in 1947, with a Bachelor degree in Music Education.  Mrs. Caire played the violin in the symphony orchestra at the University of Missouri in 1943.  

 

Mrs. Caire was a member of the Junior League of Lake Charles, serving as President in 1956 and Sustainer of the Year in 1983-1984.  She was also a member of the Krewe of Mystique, reigning as Queen in 1987.  She was President of Oak Park Development Corporation, served on the Lake Charles Housing Authority Board in the 1980’s, and was a member of the McNeese State University Foundation Board of Directors and the Foundation Steering Committee.  She also was very active with the Calcasieu Parish Medical Society Alliance and the Cancer Society.  Mrs. Caire was a faithful member of The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lake Charles for more than sixty years and worshipped at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in the latter years of her life.

 

Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Julia Stephanie “Julie” Heard Quarles of Roswell, Georgia; two granddaughters, Lauren “Laurie” Heard Moffett and Holly Heard Peterson and husband Nick; and two great granddaughters, Madison Lee Moffett and Scotti Brame Moffett, all of Lake Charles.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. John B. “Jack” Caire; first husband and the father of her daughters, Holley Heard; daughter, Margaret “Margie” Huber Heard; grandson, Cody Scobee “Grebe” Heard; and brother, John Watkins Huber.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Lake Charles under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Msgr. Harry Grieg will officiate.   Entombment will be at Consolata Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 until 7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 until 9:30 a.m.

 

Memorial donations in memory of Mrs. Caire may be made to St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church Building Fund, 5495 Elliott Road, Lake Charles, LA  70605 or the McNeese State University Foundation, P. O. Box 91989, Lake Charles, LA  70609.
