Rosemary Halley Whitmire

Rosemary Halley Whitmire died in a local hospital, with her loving family at her side.   She was welcomed into heaven by her Savior and her husband James A. Whitmire on November 29, 2023.

Born to John Henry Halley and Alice Virginia Da Mour Halley in Bastrop, Louisiana, Mrs. Whitmire graduated in 1959 from Westlake High School.  She worked in various fields during her lifetime, but her forte’ was found in  her work as a secretary and bookkeeper.  She enjoyed traveling and cooking for her family and others.  She joyfully participated in preparing for others and was a wonderful hostess; her door was always open.  Coffee time was family time, and family and friends could usually be found at her home around 4 in the afternoon for coffee and home-baked cookies.  Her grandchildren called her kitchen the “Cookie Café.” Mrs. Whitmire was of the Baptist faith.

Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory are two daughters, Cynthia “Cyndi” W.  LeJeune and husband Mark of Moss Bluff and Anita Jo “Jodi” Whitmire of Westlake; one brother, Mesonie T. “Buck”  Halley, Sr. and wife Dorothy of Lake Charles; one sister, Janis Virginia Mann of Moss Bluff; four grandchildren, John-Michael Powers and wife Tram, Mandy Hayzlett and husband Trevor, Emily Rose Degetyer and husband Cody, and Marley McBride and husband Jordan;   and ten great grandchildren, Todd and Claire Powers, Denae, Lexie, Kayden, and Morgan Hayzlett, Makenzie, Payton and Kayden Degetyer, and Ross McBride.

Mrs. Whitmire was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 59 years, James Allen Whitmire; and one great grandchild, Chloe Lane Powers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2023  at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Moss Bluff. Visitation will be on Sunday December 3, 2023 from 4:00pm until 8:00 pm and resume on Monday at 9:00 am until service time at the funeral home.

The family would like to express their grateful appreciation to the doctors and nurses at Christus St. Pats for the compassionate care given to their mother.
