A.D. went to his heavenly home on the same date of his birth (October 19, 1927-October 19, 2011) 84 years later.
He was a lifelong resident of Holmwood, LA. and a retired rice farmer and cattle rancher. His passion was breeding and raising horses and cattle. Mr. Harrington enjoyed working his cattle more than anything. He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bell City and a devout catholic dedicated to praying the holy rosary. A.D. was a member of the Bell City Knights of Columbus Council 3084. He was a member of Farm Bureau, the Cattleman's Association, AQHA, and the American Paint Horse Association. Mr. Harrington was a long time board member of St. John Vianney Credit Union, and also served as county committeeman for the Calcasieu and Cameron ASCS office.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Ester Romero Harrington; son, Blaine Harrington and wife Peggy of Holmwood; daughter, Lynette Granger and husband Wade of Sweetlake, and son, Shannon Harrington and wife Monica of Holmwood; eight grandchildren, Rocky Harrington and wife Monica, Scott Harrington and wife Crystal, Chris Granger and wife Erica, Brandon Harrington all of Holmwood; Heather Granger Greene and husband Chris, Lauren Harrington Guidry and husband Jason of Lake Arthur, Shawnna Harrington and Evan Harrington of Holmwood; also thirteen great grandchildren, Tyler, Brady, Patrick, Peyton, Isaac, Colin, Noah, LinseyMae, Max, Hannah, Lizee, Zoe, and Emma; and one brother, Floyd Harrington. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl; his parents, Otto and Eva Harrington, and his sister-in-law Edna Harrington whom he looked at as his sister.
His Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 22, 2011 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bell City. Reverend Emmanuel Tanu will officiate. Burial will be in DeRouen-Lorrain Cemetery in Hayes under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be, Friday, from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM, with a Cursillo Rosary at 7:00 PM and continue, Saturday from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM in the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be his eight grandchildren and honorary pallbearers will be grandson-in-laws, Chris Greene and Jason Guidry along with his nephews and niece, Ronnie and Randy Harrington, and Brenda Sibille.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to Dr. Arthur Primeaux, Dr. Ben Thompson, his caregiver and nephew Johnny Granger, along with the staff of Odyssey Hospice and St. Patrick Hospital.
