Angus Bouie "Mac" McCain, 83, died Saturday, December 4, 2010 in The Woodlands, TX.


A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Monday, December 13, 2010, at 2:00 pm at Johnson Funeral Home with his son-in-law, Governor Mike Huckabee, leading the service. The family will receive visitors at 1:00 pm.


Bouie was born on September 9, 1927 in Lake Charles, LA to Edward and Bernice McCain. He attended Lake Charles High School and McNeese State.


Bouie attended Trinity Baptist Church where he was an active member of the EMMA Sunday School class.


He was an avid sportsman and love of the outdoors greatly influenced his life. Many of his life-shaping experiences are chronicled in his book of essays, Scratchings, Memories are Like an Itch and published in The Cameron Pilot. Bouie was a champion goose caller in the 1950s, an accomplished painter, a published author, and a member of the National Rifle Association. He looked forward to annual destination hunting trips with a core group of hunting enthusiasts that included long time friend Jim Lawn.


Bouie served in The United States Navy as a fireman during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was self employed and worked in the gas and oil industry as a land agent. Later in life, he became an entrepreneur.


He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Dodie, and eight children; Susan Hinger (Jeff) of San Antonio, TX, Tal McCain (Nell) of Lake Charles, LA, Mike McCain (Brenda) of Spring Hill, AR, Janet Huckabee (Mike) of Little Rock, AR, Kathy McCain of Hope, AR, Jan Stricklin (Chuck Thornton) of Garland, TX, Michael Dawkins of Montgomery, AL, and Kim Cagle (Jeff) of The Woodlands, TX, grandchildren Lucus McCain (Angela), Travis McCain (Kristie), Jake McCain (Kelly) all of Lake Charles, LA, Melissa Schexnider (Ron) of Many, LA, Daniel McCain, James McCain, Melanie McCain all of Spring Hill, AR, John Mark Huckabee of California, David Huckabee (Lauren), Sarah Huckabee Sanders (Bryan) both of Little Rock, AR, Sunshine Brown, Christopher Brown both of Hope, AR, Elizabeth Mullis of Garland, TX, Abby Hill, Kia Dawkins both of Montgomery, AL and Chance Hill of The Woodlands, TX and eight great-grandchildren.


He also leaves behind special friends Adam Vilan, Curt Heuring, and Jerry Peloquin, artists at Studio 347, numerous relatives, and lunch buddies that forever made his life meaningful.
