Abbie Lewis

December 22, 1939 — May 28, 2017

Abbie Paul Lewis, AKA “Bobbie” and “Big Boy”, 77, of Ville Platte, Louisiana inherited his wings on May 28, 2017.

He was born to Mary LaFleur Martin and Abbie Lewis on December 22, 1939. Abbie graduated from James Stephens High School, and attended Southern University.   He was united in marriage on March 18, 1961 to Barbara Antoine in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was the owner of Lewis Texaco in Lake Charles and maintained the station with the help of his hard-working wife. He was also employed by Conoco refinery for 35 years and retired in 2002 as a Supervisor over Transportation.

He spent 25 years in Ragley, Louisiana where he enjoyed raising cattle, fishing, hunting, gardening, and vacationing. He loved being a father to his five children and grandfather to his six grandchildren. All of his storytelling will be greatly missed.

He leaves cherished memories to his devoted wife of 56 years, Barbara Antione Lewis of Lake Charles; two sons Michael Lewis, and Edward Lewis (the late Melissa Lewis) both of Lake Charles; three daughters, Jackie Fontenot (Jerry) and Ericka Mallett (Thomas) both of Lake Charles, and Dorothy Iles (Jarrod), DeRidder.   He leaves a legacy of love to his six grandchildren, Natosha Lewis Cotlone (Jeffery), Michael Lewis Jr., Jasmine Fontenot, Jessica Fontenot, Jordan Iles, and Faith Bellard. He leaves years of laughs and love to his only sister Dorothy Lewis Deshotel (late Calvin Deshotel) of Houston, Texas and two nephews Robert Deshotel, Russell Deshotel, and one niece (the late) Jeanie Gatson; and he leaves all of his extensive jokes to his best friends Henry Brown and Arthur Guillory.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday June 1, 2017, at Johnson Funeral Home, Lake Charles. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 9:00 AM until the beginning of the service. Pastor Clifton David of First Church of God in Christ will officiate services.
