Aimee Ruth Hernandez, 98, of Lake Charles, LA passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 in a local care facility.
Mrs. Hernandez was born on August 21, 1918 to Alcin and Louise Comeaux in Youngsville, LA and has lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She was a graduate of the University of Lafayette where she obtained a Home Economics Degree. She took great pride in teaching kids 4-H Clubs and ladies Home Demonstration clubs. Mrs. Hernandez made such an impact within the LSU Extension Service that she was honored by having a room named after her at the LSU Ag Center at Burton Coliseum. She was an exceptional seamstress and a great cook. During her younger years, Mrs. Hernandez loved to dance and enjoyed bowling for two teams with the local league. She also enjoyed hunting, fishing, shrimping, boating and countless camping trips to Holly Beach and the San Antonio River Festival. Mrs. Hernandez was a devoted wife, mother and friend. “She had a full and productive life and a lot of fun living it”.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Drynda Hernandez Crookshank of Lake Charles; one son, Glynn Barton Joseph Hernandez of Iowa, four grandchildren, Mandy Bellow, Joseph Crookshank III, M.D., Mario Hernandez and Rebekah Johnson; two great grandchildren, Robin Dupont and Marais Bellow and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hernandez is preceded in death by her husband, Andrus Hernandez; her parents; one brother; four sisters; and her great- grandson, Dylan Bellow.
A Memorial Mass will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father Matthew Cormier will officiate. Visitation Saturday will be from 8:30 AM until 9:45 AM in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel.
