Alan Felix Hunt

May 22, 1931 — February 17, 2012

Alan Felix Hunt, age 80, died on Friday, February 17, 2012. A resident of Lake Charles, Alan spent the last few years of his life at the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jennings.

Born in New Orleans to Ernest Caswell Hunt, Sr. and Alys Deloteus Hunt, he grew up in Lake Charles and attended Lake Charles High School. Alan served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was a Crypto Operator stationed in France.

A man of many talents and interests, Alan was a rodeo clown, a taxi driver, an appraiser, a gas station cashier, and the host of a big band show on local radio. He performed undercover police work, drove a truck for the Salvation Army, and hosted a Sunday evening talk radio show on KAOK Radio. Most recently, Alan was active in the used merchandise market.

Alan loved music and was a regular at Tuesday night karaoke at the Isle of Capri. He often sang songs recorded by Frank Sinatra. When he moved to the Veterans Home, he brought karaoke to the vets.

A prolific writer, Alan often wrote letters to the editor of the American Press. For many years, he wrote and performed at the annual Gridiron benefit of the Southwest Louisiana Ad Press Club. At the Veterans Home, Alan worked with staff to produce a newsletter for his fellow vets. Alan titled the newsletter, The Rusty Bugle, and wrote many of the articles. The Rusty Bugle was the first newsletter produced by a veterans home in Louisiana.

Ever the performer, Alan performed the role of Mr. Guilmont in the 2006 movie, Little Chenier. He is listed in iMDb.

His life's passion was biorhythm research, the theory that a person's life is affected by rhythmic biological cycles. These cycles affect one's mental, physical, and emotional activity and can predict one's abilities on any given day. Alan repeatedly predicted that he would die on a Friday; and on Thursday, February 16, he told many people goodbye or that he would not see them again. He was right.

Alan was a member of Mensa, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

His parents, his sister Elayn Hunt, his brother E. C. Hunt, Jr., and his nephew John Marion Eicher preceded him in death.

He is survived by his adopted son and daughter, Vincent and Diana Dodge, and his grandsons, Luke and Joel Dodge, all of Baker, LA. He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Martha Whelan and Alvin Hunt of Lake Charles; Darrell Hunt, Meredith Eicher, and Ashley Duplessis of Baton Rouge; Ellen Hunt of Easley, SC; and Naaman Eicher of Crestview, FL.

We will celebrate the life of Alan Felix Hunt on Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 pm. The family will greet friends from 5 pm to 9 pm.

Alan requested memorial donations be made to the Elayn Hunt Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o MSU Foundation, PO Box 91989, Lake Charles, LA 70609.
