Albert Naylor "Duts" Burguieres

Albert Naylor “Duts” Burguieres, 79, of Lake Charles passed away Saturday, March 20, 2021 in Beaumont, Texas in an assisted living home. 

Mr. Burguieres was born January 29, 1942 in Lafayette, LA to Edward E. Burguieres and Mary Ellen Bell Burguieres Ruckstuhl.  He was a graduate of LaGrange Senior High School and Tulane University where he attained a Bachelor of Science in English Education.  He was selected an All-American football player his senior year and was awarded an athletic scholarship to Tulane University.  He was a talented athlete, having played both quarterback and defensive back throughout his high school and college careers.  He began his career at De LaSalle High School in New Orleans.  Coach Burguieres returned to both his home and his high school to coach for the LaGrange High School Gators.  He continued his education, earning a master’s degree in administration and served as Assistant Principal at LaGrange and later served as a Central Office Administrator for Calcasieu Parish School Board.  He retired after forty years of service.  Mr. Burguieres also served on the Board of Directors for his family’s business, The J.M. Burguieres Co., Limited, as a Calcasieu Parish Police Juror and was a member and past president of Louisiana Fishing Club. 

He leaves to honor his memory, his first wife, Jerry Lynn Fontenot Burguieres Woolman of Lake Charles; two sons, Douglas Duane Burguieres and wife Cindy and Steven Ray Burguieres and wife Karen, both of Lake Charles; four grandchildren, Kaitlin Marai Burguieres, Benjamin Keith Burguieres, Brady Douglas Burguieres and Marissa Kate Burguieres; his sister, Rosalind Ruckstuhl of Lake Charles; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Burguieres and Margaret Burguieres, many nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, Gwendolyn Lancon; his parents; two brothers, Williams Edward Burguieres and Robert Naylor Burguieres and one sister, Gwynn Ellyn Savant.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday March 24, 2021 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Monsignor Jace Eskind and Monsignor Daniel Torres will officiate.  Interment services will be at 3:00 PM at the Cypremort House in Franklin.  Father Randy Courville will officiate.  Interment will be in St. Helens Cemetery in Louisa, LA.  Visitation Tuesday will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 6:00 PM at Lake City Baptist Church.
