Alcee John "A. J." Simon, 69, died at 5:30 AM on Sunday, October 12, 2014 in a local care facility. Mr. Simon was born January 28, 1945 in Vinton, LA and was raised in Cameron Parish, where he lived most of his life. He was of the Catholic faith and worked as a welder's helper and roustabout in the oil field industry for most of his life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to spend time on the front porch watching the hummingbirds. He will always be remembered for his easy going and loving nature. Mr. Simon is survived by his step-daughter, Delores Ratcliff of TX; siblings, Grace Roe of Lake Charles, Rudy "Butch" Simon of Lake Charles, Judy Miller and husband Robert of Sulphur, Morris Simon, Jr. and wife Linda of North Carolina, Roger Simon and wife Vicky of New Caney, TX, James Simon and wife Bonnie of Onalaska, TX, Larry Simon of Kingwood, TX, Chris Simon and companion Lefty Bourriague of Lake Charles, and Glen Simon of Eunice, LA; dear friends, Loretta Brothers and Elaine Thompson, both of Cameron; special family members, Roy and Katie Ravia of Sulphur; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Pruitt Simon; and parents, Morris Joseph and Mary Kibodeaux Simon. His memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend David Richard will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the start of the service at the funeral home.
