It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alfonso “Al” Robert Guerrini, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this life peacefully on January 3, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on November 9, 1935, in Houston, TX,
Al was a proud graduate of the University of Houston. While in college Al served in the ROTC program and served 6 months at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. After his graduation he was hired by Conoco and moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma, where he met the love of his life, Yvonne Robbins. They corresponded through letters for over a year and then married. A marriage that lasted 60 years.
Al was an engineer whose extensive career in the petrochemical industry with Conoco in Westlake La. where he showcased his dedication and expertise. He was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he found community and purpose, and held an esteemed membership with the Knights of Columbus Post #8322. One of Al’s joys was being a HAM radio operator and member of the Lakes Area Radio Control Society (LARCS) in Sulphur. After retirement, he continued his serving the Lake Charles and Sulphur communities as foreman for Habitat for Humanity.
Al is survived by his beloved daughters, Janet Guerrini, Margaret Drouant (Steve), and Mary McCollough (Mike); his son, Frank Guerrini; and his dear brother Bernard Guerrini (Jane) and sisters, Mary Ann Descant and Patricia White. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his grandchildren, Megan Tran (Wynn), Sara Conner, Emily Tyndall (Richard), Austin McCollough, and Cody McCollough, as well as his great-grandchild, Emilia Tran.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; Alfonso and Mary Guerrini, his wife, Yvonne Jane Robbins Guerrini.
Every interaction with Al was a testament to his kindness, wisdom, and humility, which will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His life's journey was marked not only by professional accomplishments but also by the love and laughter shared with family and friends around the dinner table, during holidays, and in quiet moments of reflection and connection. Funeral services will be held on January 8, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur, La. A public viewing will begin at 9:30 AM, followed by a Rosary at 10:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, celebrating a life well-lived and the faith that guided him. Following the Mass, Al will be laid to rest in entombment at Consolata Cemetery in Lake Charles.
