Alfred Alcide Devall, 91, of Lake Charles passed away Friday, September 05, 2014 in a local healthcare facility. Mr. Devall was a native of Lake Charles and lived most of his life in Hackberry. He served the United States Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked his younger years in the Oil Field industry. In 1952, Mr. Devall began his business plan in founding Devall Towing. He began operations in 1954 and retired with great success in 1983. He took great pride in his business ethics of honesty and service, instilling those same ethics in his sons as they worked many years along his side. Mr. Devall loved to cook and especially loved cooking for family and friends, leaving countless memories of Sunday gatherings. He was a member of American Waterways Operators and Woodman of the World. He also a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church where for many years, he was a Eucharistic Minister and was recently awarded the Distinguished Service Award of Diocese of the Lake Charles by Bishop Jude Speryer. Mr. Devall will be most remembered for his love and devotion to his family and several nieces and nephews. He leaves to honor his memory, six children, Mike Devall and wife Frances, James "Bubba" Devall and wife Lana, Jeanie Vick and husband Albert "Bubba", all of Lake Charles, Joe Devall of Hackberry, Theresa Leonards and husband Ludwig of Mittie and Allen Devall of Lake Charles; daughter-in-law, Cele Devall of Lake Charles; thirty-two grandchildren; fifty great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn "Boo" Reed of Hackberry and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly sixty years, Lavelle Whatley Devall; his parents, Leroy and Eula Benoit Devall; two daughters, Loretta Seay and Judy Orr; one son, Claude Devall; daughter-in-law, Kathy Tenney Devall and son-in-law, Charles Seay. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 06, 2014 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Hackberry under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father Edward Brunert will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation and a rosary service were held Friday in the funeral home. Visitation Saturday will be from 9:00 AM until the time of service in the church. Mr. Devall's family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Stonebridge Place and the Guardian House and his sitters, Shelley O'Quain, Monique Vick, Linda Olson, Tina Vice and Marquette Ancelet, who became very close to him.
