Alfred Martin Cogbill, 79, of Lake Charles died at 9:45 PM on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Cogbill was born in Pine Bluff, AR on July 30, 1933 and was raised in Logan, WV. He has lived in Lake Charles since 1971. He was a Petroleum Engineer and had his own business, Petroleum Engineering Association, Inc. and co-owner of two other companies, Scotty's Vacuum Service and Lee-Dee Wholesale Company. He retired at the age of fifty to pursue the good life. Mr. Cogbill was on the board of directors of the original Lakeside National Bank and also on the board of the Lake Charles Country Club.
He was a member of Burnt Pine Golf Club in Destin, FL and a member of the Stirling Club in LasVegas, NV. He was also a local member of Revere Golf Club in Henderson, NV. As a proud member of Southern Seniors Golf Association he traveled the country playing golf at some of his favorite places like the Greenbriar, Homestead and of course Pebble Beach.
Al received his bachelors and masters degrees in Petroleum Engineering from West Virginia University. Having maintained a rank in Scholarship in the first fifth of his class, he was declared a member of TAU BETA PI. He was a Board Certified Petroleum Engineer in both Louisiana and Texas. While at the University, he was a member of the fraternal order of Kappa Sigma fraternity. Also while at college he was a member of the ROTC and upon graduation he received his commission in the United States Army which he served in Germany.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of forty-three years, Idell Spence Cogbill; daughter, Sharron LaMoyne Cogbill Blair and husband Tom; son, Malcolm Martin Cogbill and wife Jolene; grandchildren, Kyle Thomas Blair, Keri Nicole Blair, Malcolm Martin Cogbill, Jr., Mark Alan Cogbill, Mason Kilohana Cogbill and Phoebe Ualani Cogbill. And never forget his beloved pet, Scooter, who brought much joy into his life.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Monsignor Harry Greig will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the start of the services.
The family would like to thank our dear friends who were there until the end. Sincere thanks to the ICU Staff at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital especially Jon and Justin, Al's nurses, who went above and beyond throughout his stay there.
