Alice Clare House Taussig passed away peacefully on September 13, 2020. Alice was born on April 12, 1936 to Walter R. And Catherine H. House. She graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1954 and attended Louisiana State University from 1954 to 1956.
She was active in Lake Charles community service as a member of the Junior League for 20 years including serving as President in 1972. She was also a board member of the Civic Symphony, Lake Charles Ballet Society for Ballet Joyeux, and Speech and Hearing Center for Southwest Louisiana.
During her business career, she began work at Zarr and Company in Houston, and worked as a licensed real estate broker in Texas and Washington, D.C. During the 1980s and 1990s she was a volunteer campaign worker in the Presidential campaigns of Presidents Reagan and Bush, served as Deputy to Assistant to Vice President Bush for Appointments, and as Director of Education Programs, President’s Commission on Executive Exchange. Later in life she re-entered college and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from Georgetown University in 1993. Alice earned a Juris Doctor in 1996 from American University, Washington College of Law, and was admitted to the New Jersey bar in 1997. She practiced law in various roles during the remainder of her legal career.
She is survived by daughters Elizabeth C. Taussig and Florence T. Grace, son Edward H. Taussig II and wife Mary W. Taussig, and son James E. Taussig III and wife Eloise B. Taussig. She leaves behind her grandchildren Andrew R. Lang, Edward H. Taussig III, William J. Taussig, James E. Taussig IV, and Walter B. Taussig. She is also survived by her sister Helen H. Boyer and husband James G. Boyer, her brother Walter R. House, Jr. and wife Barbara W. House, along with nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful for all of the wonderful love and care provided by her caregiver, Sharon Dobbins Stewart during the last several years. Additionally, Alice’s family is very thankful for the care provided by the management and staff of Brookdale Lake Charles Senior Living where she was a resident over the last four years, and Brookdale Houston - Memorial Oaks Senior Living, where she was for a short period after evacuating Lake Charles due to Hurricane Laura. Finally, her family wishes to thank the many owners and employees of various restaurants, stores, and movie theaters of Lake Charles who were so kind and welcoming to Alice on her trips around town with Sharon during the last few years.
A private graveside service will be officiated by Monsignor Harry D. Greig on Friday, September 18th at Dutch Cove Cemetery near Sulphur. Further details on a future memorial service will be shared as they become available.
