Alice Kathleen Morton, 85, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, died Saturday, May 24th, 2014 in Galveston, Texas. Ms. Alice was born on September 23, 1928 in Houston, Texas. She lived in Winnie-Stowell, Texas and graduated from East Chambers High School. She went on to graduate from Lamar College with a degree in radiology technology. Alice was a long time resident of Beaumont, Texas. While in Beaumont, she was a den mother for Pack 22 of the Cub Scouts and provided childcare in her home for many years. Alice had many friends and family all over Texas and Louisiana. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and she will be greatly missed by all. She moved to Lake Charles in 1974 after marrying Winston "Wimpy" Morton. Alice and Winston were lifetime members of the American Legion, Post 1. She was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary, serving many terms as President and in other various offices and committees. Alice took a special interest in children's activities with the Auxiliary including Easter Egg Hunts and the Poppy Drive. She took great pride participating in Post functions such as conventions, parades, scholarship programs, and numerous other activities. She was also a member of the DAV. She is survived by two sons, Robert E. Welch and wife Vicki and Thomas A. Welch and wife Liz; one daughter, Margaret Blakey; one sister, Shirley Willett; brother, Rick Broussard and wife Sue; and 5 grandchildren, Erin Welch Jones, Geoff Paul, Russell Welch, Michael Welch, and Eric Blakey. She is preceded in death by her late husband, Winston A. Morton. The family would like to give special thanks to Michael Lanthier, the Lake Charles Fire Department, the staff at Memorial Hospital and John Sealy Blocker Burn Unit for their compassion and care. Services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until time of service at Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery. Deacon Glenn Viau will officiate services.
