Allen Jay Fontenot of Lake Charles passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, September 10, 2021 in his daughter’s home in Dripping Springs, TX. He was born on February 17, 1938 in Mamou, LA to Phillip and Leta Manuel Fontenot.
Allen was an avid outdoor sportsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger days, and he loved playing poker and bourre’ with friends. He was a member of the LaGrange High School Boxing Team, and a Golden Glove boxer. He coached South Side Little League Baseball for ten years, winning a State Championship in 1972. He honorably served his country as a member of the Louisiana National Guard. He retired after twenty five years of service with Citgo. Allen will be remembered as a fun-loving man who lived large, and for his fierce love of his family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Marla Burleigh (Dexter) of Dripping Springs, TX, and Mona Tempel (Michael) of Houston, TX; his daughter in law, Adele Wade of Baton Rouge, LA; 8 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Elwanda Mary Fontenot; and his son, Rusty Fontenot; his sister, Fern McComb; and his brother, Mike Fontenot.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Family friend, Father Chris Nguyen of Magnolia, TX will officiate.
The family would like to thank Three Oaks Hospice in Austin, TX and Kislyn Alvarez, his caregiver of more than a year.
