Alma Iris Brown Collins

Alma Iris Brown Collins, 95, of Lake Charles died at 1:20 PM on Sunday, February 12, 2012 in a local care facility.

Mrs. Collins was born on March 28, 1916 in Lake Charles, LA where she lived all of her life. She owned and operated Alma's Beauty Shop for over forty years. Mrs. Collins was a life-long member of First Christian Church serving as Sunday school teacher, Church Clerk, and member of Christian Women's Fellowship. She enjoyed cooking, cleaning, travel, and being with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are four children and their spouses, Phyllis Collins Cuevas and Spence of Lake Charles, Faye Collins Miller and Bob of Ledyard, CT, Carol Collins Cannon and Michael of Lake Charles, and James Nelson Collins and Sharon of Katy, TX; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Cathy Cuevas Fontenot and Chris of Lake Charles, Karine Miller Heard and Mike of Quaker Hill, CT, Keri Cannon Ellender of Lake Charles, Kristin Cannon Segura and Dusty of Lake Charles, Stacy Collins Fresquez and Art of Katy, TX, John Collins of Houston, TX, and Whitney Collins of Houston, TX.; nine great grandchildren; and three great great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luke T. and Emma Iris Oxford Brown; her husband, James Edgar Collins; two brothers, Luke and Frank Brown; a sister, Marjorie Brown Kimball; two grandsons, Kenneth Cuevas and Erik Miller; and a great grandson, Randall Johnston.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, February 16, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Don Varnadore will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue on Thursday from 1:00 PM until the start of the service.

Pallbearers will be: Allen and Andrew Fontenot, Whitney and John Collins, Ty Ellender, and Art Fresquez.
