Alva M. Caster, 83, of Vinton, LA died Sunday, March 15, 2015 in a local hospital. Alva was born on December 11, 1931 in Oberlin, KS to Myron and Anneta Caster. He loved reading, gardening, and traveling. He attended University of Kansas and graduated with a engineering degree from Colorado School of Mines. He enjoyed a 35 year career as an engineer in the petrochemical industry that took him to places such as Saudi Arabia, India, and around the United States. He proudly served our country in the Army. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rosalie Jackson Caster; four children, Theodore Caster and wife Donna of Houston, TX, Laura Weiser Velasquez and husband Juan of Austin, TX, Audrey Zwak and husband Shawn of Steamboat Springs, CO, and Daniel Caster and wife Charlotte of Coshocton, Ohio; fourteen grandchildren; five great grand children; five siblings, Berdeen Lawrence, Dallas Caster and wife Ellen, Lois Jansen Bare and husband Larry, Donna Driewer and husband Wally, and Linda Caster Senff and husband David. He is preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at Welsh Memorial United Methodist Church, 1100 Horridge St., Vinton, LA on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 10:30am. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fontenot Memorial Library, Vinton, LA.
