Alva Speedy Brumfield Parker

February 4, 1931 — June 20, 2013

Alva Mae Speedy Brumfield Parker, 82, of Lake Charles went from this life on Thursday, June 20, 2013 to be with her Savior.


Mrs. Parker was born to Meredith I. and Lola Strickland Brumfield on February 04, 1931 near Kentwood, LA. She was a graduate of LeCompte High School where she won a number of Gold medals for State and District Typing Rally's and the Business medal when she graduated. She completed three years of college studies at Northwestern University and McNeese State University. She worked several years in the automotive business as Bookkeeper and Office Manager until she went into business for herself as a Bookkeeper and Tax Preparer. Mrs. Parker received many awards from Chrysler Corp and General Motors for accounting proficiency. For fun, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, painting, playing games, caring for her plants and loved traveling and camping with her family. Mrs. Parker was a member of Sale Street Baptist Church and Four Winds Tribe of LA Cherokee Confederacy.


Mrs. Parker will be most remembered as a strong will and determined spirit.


She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband of fifty-seven years, Leo A. Parker, Sr. of Lake Charles; one son, Leo A. Buddy Parker, Jr. and wife Cathy of DeRidder; one daughter, Marilyn Hebert and husband O'Neil of Lake Charles; three grandchildren, Brandi Dobson and husband Chris and John Hebert, IV, of Lake Charles and Susannah Parker of DeRidder; two great-grandchildren, Emma Dobson and Brady Dobson, and three sisters, Bobbie Belcher and husband C.W. and Billie Walters and husband Dean, both of Coushatta, LA and Lou Guess and husband Craig of Shreveport.


She was preceded in death by her parents.


Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM June 22, 2013 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Tommy Rayburn will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Friday will be from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.


The family of Mrs. Parker wishes to extend sincere gratitude to the Dr. Ron Lewis and his nurse Laura, along with the team of Heart of Hospice for their excellence in care and compassion during this difficult time.
