Alwood J. Brignac entered the heavenly gates on Saturday, May 4, 2024, in Jennings, LA, at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home.
Alwood graduated from Bayou Chicot High School. After graduating he enlisted in U.S. Air Force and later served in the National Guard. Alwood lived in Lake Charles for 43 years before moving to Bunkie, LA. in 2001 where he lived for almost 21 years.
His main job in the military was as a postal worker. He continued his career in the postal service after he came out of the air force. He worked at the US Post office in Lake Charles for over 33 years before retiring.
Outside of work he loved spending time with his family. He loved shrimping, fishing and hunting. His favorite pastime was watching and feeding the birds and squirrels.
Alwood is preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Marzine Brignac, his first wife of 43 years, Diana “Dee” Bourque Brignac, and later by his second wife, Joyce Ducote Brignac, daughter, Pamala Ann Sorgee, grandson, Scott Fornea, Sarah and Elizabeth, brother, Everton Brignac.
Alwood leaves behind a legacy of love and is survived by his three adult children, Connie Fornea (Allen), Sharon Owens (Bill), Kevin Brignac (David Alexander), his adopted daughter, Tammy Hale (Mike), grandchildren, Monique Langlanais (Terry), Matthew Fornea (Sarah), Katherine Fornea, Elizabeth Martin (Jared), Gilbert McComb, Jr. great-grandchildren Blaise Langlanais, Madeline Fornea and Alice Fornea. He is also survived by three stepchildren, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank his caregiver Kathy Ashworth and Lamm Hospice for all the care and support as well as the CAN’s, RN, LPN at Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings.
Visitation for family and friends will begin at Noon, Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St. Lake Charles, LA 70605. A Catholic Rite of Christian Burial will be at 2:00PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Graveside services and military honors will follow the funeral at Highland Memory Garden Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Pamala Sorgee or to St. Jude Childrens Hospital in memory of Kelly Willibur.
