Andrew "Ben" Istre

Andrew “Ben” Istre,87, passed away on April 14, 2023.  Ben was born February 23,1936 in Lake Charles ,LA. to Vincent and Ora Istre. He was raised in Lake Charles, LA where he grew up working in his family’s mechanic shop before leaving to serve in the US Army where he received an honorable discharge in 1962. Ben was a member of the American Legion Post 179. He lived most of his adult life in Sulphur, LA where he married Ruby, raised his 6 children and worked for various companies as a Diesel Mechanic until he retired in 1994. Ben loved to work on things well into his later years. He was known for his work on small engines and usually had people dropping things off for him to work on. He didn’t like to be idle at all. He loved to have a good time with family and friends. Ben is survived by his 6 children ,their spouses and his siblings; John Lucas Bevil, James Richard Bevil(Brenda), Donna Marie Sittig (Aaron), Ora Lynn Crawford, Angelina Louise ( Leslie McClendon) Benny Roy Istre(Anna).His surviving siblings; Chris Istre,Sr., David Istre( Virginia), Irene Simon and Inez Istre.  Also his 14 grandchildren , 25 great grandchildren, numerous Great great grandchildren and a host of bonus grandchildren that called him Pawpaw Ben. Mr. Istre was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Landry Istre, his parents Vincent and Ora McNeil Istre; his brothers Roy, Frank, George, Andrew, Elward, Rodney and Alfred; his sisters , Juanita and Elaine and his son in law Bryan Crawford. Ben will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
A memorial service for Ben will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 4 PM at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home with Pastor Marcus Wade officiating.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, from 12 PM until the time of service.  Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson and Robison Funeral Home.
