Andrew Landry, Jr.

Andrew Landry, Jr., age 82, passed away Friday, April 15, 2011 at his residence in Lake Charles surrounded by his family.


Mr. Landry was born in Edgerly on October 22, 1928, to Andrew and Antoinette (Nettie) LeBouef Landry. He was a utility foreman at the time of his retirement from Gulf States Utilities. He loved working in his yard and shrimping but mostly he loved participating in his children's activities. This included Cub Scouts, baseball coaching and umpiring, and Blue Birds as well as being room "Dad" to his children's classes. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, The Cajun French Music Association, and The Knights of Columbus.


He started school in Hackberry, LA and completed high school in 1947 in DeRidder, LA. After graduation he entered service in the Navy. His tour of duty included being stationed on an APD (Amphibious Forces Transport Ship) during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Korea, San Diego, and Alaska. One of the most cherished memories is the day to day journal he kept during that time.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Geraldine Duhon Landry; his father, Andrew Landry, Sr.; his mother, "Nettie" Landry Williams; his step father, Hugh Williams; and brothers, Arthur Lee Landry and Billy Wayne Williams.


Those left to cherish his memory are his five children, Dwight "Joe" Landry and wife Lisa of Lake Charles, Monica Landry Pesson and husband Roland "Buddy" of Lake Charles, Ricky Landry and wife Cindy of Broussard, Scott Landry and wife Kathleen of Lake Charles, and Charmaine Landry Anderson and husband Andy of Lake Charles; sisters, Lou Stone of New Braunfels, TX and Francis Erwin and husband Paul of Estes Park, CO; twelve grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon George Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a scripture service and rosary being held at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until time of services.


Pallbearers will be: Brian Landry, Dudley Clarke, Roland "Buddy" Pesson, Jr., Corey Pesson, Roland "Chip" Pesson, III, and Cameron Landry. Honorary pallbearer will be Conner Pesson.


The family would like to thank Nicki Bertrand, Millie Bouley, and Pat Davis for their loving care and support of both Geraldine and Andrew. They would also like to thank Evangeline Home Health and Brighton Bridge Hospice, especially Melinda Kellar for their care.


In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Evangeline Home Health, 1304 Bertrand Dr. #E, Lafayette, LA 70506, Brighton Bridge Hospice, 213 North 1st St. #B, Oberlin, LA 70655, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in the name of Andrew and Geraldine Landry.
