CARLYSS – Andrew W. “Andy” Phipps, 89, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016 in his residence. Andy was a Veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. He owned and operated Andy’s Seafood in Hackberry for over 50 years; he was passionate about the shrimp industry, continuing to be involved after his “retirement”. He lived his life to the fullest and on his terms. Andy will be remembered as an outspoken man who would say exactly what he thought and he enjoyed arguing his viewpoint with others. Most of all he has left a legacy of an endless work ethic, and perseverance that he instilled in his family.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Susie Phipps; son, Kenny Phipps and wife Linda of Sulphur; grandsons, Dylan Phipps and wife Kendra of Sulphur, Jay Phipps of Sulphur, and Travis Andrew Phipps of New Orleans; and three great granddaughters; his stepson, Joseph Alcide Stutes, III of Sulphur; and he was more than a “step-grandfather” to Jessica Norris and husband Mark, Chad Stutes and Shaun Stutes; nine great grandchildren and sister, Martha Vidrine of Ville Platte. He is also survived by special nieces and nephews, Candy and Randy Reese of Breaux Bridge, and John D. Phipps of Austin; and a very special family friend, Alyne Champagne. He was preceded in death by five brothers; four sisters; and his step-daughter, Sherry Stutes.
Funeral Service will be at 10 am, Thursday, June 2, 2016 in Johnson & Robison Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from10 am – 9pm on Wednesday at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home with a recitation of the Rosary at 7pm; and will resume at 8am Thursday until time of service. Interment will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South of Carlyss under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home.
