Ann Thornton Clark Sweeney, 66, of Lake Charles, LA died at 11:50 AM on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 in a local care facility. Mrs. Sweeney was born September 27, 1947 in Boston, MA, graduated high school in California and was a Sam Houston State University graduate. She traveled the world, living in multiple places and has lived in Lake Charles for the past eighteen years. She was a member of Moss Bluff Bible Church, where she was a volunteer for Awana and a member of the Women's Sunday School and Tuesday Morning Women's Bible Study. Ann enjoyed ministering to people at nursing homes and hospitals. She was a charter member of the Lake Charles Ice Pirates Booster Club and a member of the Local Tea Party Association. She enjoyed hiking and was a part of the Volks Marching Hiking Club, the Red Hat Society, Richard III Society, and the Historical Society. Ann also enjoyed the arts and loved to visit the Houston Museum of Fine Arts and Dickens on the Strand in Galveston. She also had a passion for writing poetry and always enjoyed English and American history. She was also a lifelong Cincinnati Reds fan. Mrs. Sweeney is survived by her husband of forty years, James Roy Sweeney; two sisters, Susie Clark Brighton (husband Keith Brighton) of Red Lodge, MT and Mary Jane Clark of White River Junction, VT; nieces and nephews, Clark, Allison, Alexander, and Catherine; and great-niece and nephews, Kyra, Evan, and Graham. Her memorial service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 7, 2014 at Moss Bluff Bible Church. Reverend Ed Rose will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Friday at the funeral home from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM. Memorial donations can be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc., 912 Killian Hill Road SW, Lil Burn, GA 30047.
