Anne Kelman Sicks

December 13, 1919 — August 1, 2012

Anne Kelman Sicks, 92, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012 in her home. Born in Mount Hope, New Jersey on December 13, 1919, she lived in California and Texas before moving to Lake Charles with her husband, Ralph in 1955. For 25 years she assisted him in the day-to-day operations at Kayouche Coulee Golf Course where he was the golf pro; she was also active in the Ladies' Golf Association.

She was a dedicated mother, committed to giving her daughters every opportunity to experience the arts, music, and literature and instilling in them the importance of faith.

Anne was a self-educated woman and continued her love of learning throughout her lifetime. Her favorite pastime was reading, especially the Wall Street Journal, but she also enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing bridge and trying new recipes. In her retirement years, she became active in her women's circle at University United Methodist Church and volunteered at Memorial Hospital's gift shop.

She had an inner strength and determination, loved to laugh and socialize with family and friends and never met a stranger. Although diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2008, she continued to be thoughtful of others and had a sweet spirit of gratitude.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ralph; three daughters, Diane Mauricio and her husband, Jose' of Missouri City, TX, Donna Walsh and her husband, John of Shreveport and Denise Landin of Baton Rouge; two grandchildren, Trey and Laura Walsh; a sister, Olga Bieganousky of West Palm Beach, FL and a brother, Pete Kellman, of Clifton, NJ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Pauline Kelman, sisters, Mary Pelka and Julie Godwin and a brother John Kelman.

Anne's family offers special thanks to Krystal Thomas Moore and Norma Granger, her wonderful caregivers for the past two years. They are also appreciative for the friendships so many extended to her during her lifetime and to the great staff of Heart of Hospice for her care in her final months.

Her funeral will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 10:30 AM. Pastor Paul Estes will officiate. A private burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
