Lucille Fontenot

Lucille Fontenot, 90, passed away on April 8, 2025 in Lake Charles, LA. She was born on December 19, 1934 in Montgomery, LA to Frank Sharbino and Gladys Waxler Sharbino.

Lucille worked as Telephone Operator for the Borden Dairy Company in Lake Charles, and then went on to work for the Calcasieu Parish School Board as Food Technician at Barbe High School, where she was affectionately known as "The Lunch Lady." She served faithfully in that role from the time Barbe High School opened, on September 1, 1971 until her retirement.

Mrs. Fontenot will be remembered as headstrong and independent. She enjoyed being at home watching birds and caring for her plants. Above all, cooking and caring for her family was her "love language."

Those left to cherish her memory are her two children, Charlotte F. Haunce; Joseph Christopher "Chris" Fontenot; her grandchildren, Kristy Williams Baucom, Joseph Christopher "Joey" Fontenot, Jr. (Tambrick), Crystal Fontenot Trahan, Amy Haunce Eddy (Justin), and Zachary Allen Haunce; eleven great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 36 years, Allen Bruce Fontenot; her grandson, Thomas James Williams; and her brother, Clifford Waller.

Mrs. Fontenot's funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, April 11, 2025 in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles with Rev. Josh Page presiding. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM on Thursday evening, continuing until 7:00 PM, with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Friday at 11:00 AM, continuing until the start of the service at 12:00 Noon.
