Anthony "Tony" Sam Mancuso, Sr., age 77, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2010, at a local hospital.
Born July 27, 1933, to the late Sam Henry Mancuso and Lena Calloura Mancuso, he served his country as an instrument specialist and a radio operator in the U.S. Army during the Korean War achieving the rank of 1st Sergeant. For over 20 years, he owned and operated Lake Charles Sash and Door. Mr. Mancuso then went on to work for Citgo Petroleum for 17 years, before retiring from Occidental Petroleum as an operator with 14 years of service there. A member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, he enjoyed playing baseball and golf, and in his younger days, coaching his sons little league baseball. Tony loved his family very much and was proud of them. Being an only child, he was proud to have such a large family surrounding him. His most valued moments were those spent with his family. A wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Preceding him in death were his parents, and a grandson, Sam Henry Mancuso, Jr.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Regina LeJeune Mancuso of Lake Charles; a daughter, Nanette Mancuso Babineaux and husband, Bryan of Lake Charles; two sons, Sam Henry Mancuso and wife, Pam of Lake Charles, and Sheriff Anthony "Tony" Sam Mancuso, Jr. and wife, Mickey of Lake Charles; his grandchildren, Bradley James, Shane Thomas, and Emily Claire Babineaux, Kristen Deanne, Lisa Beth, and Matthew Sam Mancuso, and Anthony "Trey" Sam Mancuso, III and wife, Kayley, Mary Margaret, and Morgan Lindsay Mancuso; and one great-grandchild, Andrew Cade LaRocca.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Msgr. James Gaddy, Father Herbert May, and Father Keith Pellerin will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning on Tuesday, November 23, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Wednesday, November 24, from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. A rosary and scripture service will be Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. Donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, 3717 Government Street, Suite #7, Alexandria, LA, 71302.
