Archie Roy Stutes

Archie "Roy" Stutes, age 74, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at his residence in Moss Bluff.

Born July 1, 1936, to Jessie and Frances Bonsall Stutes, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Gillis. Roy loved sports, gardening, and working in his yard. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Preceding him in death were his parents, and a brother, J.C. Stutes.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Gwen Vawter Stutes of Moss Bluff; his three children, Timothy Stutes and wife, JoAnn of Lake Charles, Donna Thompson and husband, Jude of Iowa, and their children, Lauren, Geoffrey and wife, Jennifer, and Andrew Thompson, and Dickie Stutes and wife, Connie of Moss Bluff, and their children, Casey and wife, Kelly, and Chelsea Hooper and husband, Brett; and two great-grandchildren, Brooke and Caleb.

His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 23, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Gillis. Brother Glenn George will officiate. Burial will follow in Ritchie Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the church beginning on Wednesday, December 22, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Thursday, December 23, from 10 a.m. until time of services.
