Arleen Schnaath Goode

February 7, 1929 — April 21, 2018

Arleen Evelyn Schnaath Goode, 89, of Lake Charles passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018 in a local hospital, surrounded by her family in peace and prayer.

Mrs. Goode was born in St. Louis, Missouri and has lived over sixty years in Lake Charles.  She devoted her life and love to her faith and her family.  She met her husband, Burton Jay Goode, while attending her cousin’s wedding in Missouri, where he was the wedding photographer.  They married in Missouri on July 16, 1949 and shortly thereafter moved to Lake Charles.  She was a wonderful homemaker, taking great pride in caring for her husband and her children.  Once her children were grown, Mrs. Goode worked a few years at Calcasieu Savings & Loan as a secretary to the branch manager.  She enjoyed sewing and was very creative with arts and crafts well into her later years.  She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church since 1956 where she also played the piano for Bible study.  Mrs. Goode will be most remembered for her creativity and the countless time, love and laughter she shared with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Sharon Thomas and husband, Roger, of Moss Bluff and Debbie Doty and husband, Michael, of Ragley; one son, Mark Goode and wife, Margaret, of Lake Charles; nine grandchildren, Del Calloway (Kacie), Ryan Calloway (Kelly), Ashley Aron (Jake), Brandon Thomas (Lindsay), Michael Doty (Lori), Erin Comardelle (Sean), Brandi Ganser (Daniel), Kevin Goode and Patricia Barrow; ten great-grandchildren and one brother, David Schnaath and wife, Edith, of Wellsville, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, Burton Jay Goode; mother, Vera, and father, Gottlieb Schnaath, and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 24, 2018 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.  Dr. Johnny Dammon will officiate.  Interment will follow in Prien Memorial Park.  Visitation Monday will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.

Pallbearers for her services will be her grandsons.

Mrs. Goode’s family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers, Pam Trimpey, Charlette Burd, Felisa Howard, Dezra Taylor and the nurses and staff of The Guardian House for their excellence in care and compassion.
