Arthur Steven Fluitt, 80, passed away Friday, February 12, 2021 in the comfort of his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Fluitt was born April 14, 1940 to Arthur Augustus Fluitt and Elvie Fletcher Fluitt in Dequincy, LA. He was a graduate of Dequincy High School where he played football and ran track. He was also a dancer growing up and always enjoyed dancing. He continued his education at Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service College where he attained his Professional License. Mr. Fluitt was an exemplary man of Funeral Service for nearly fifty years having worked primarily in Little Rock, AR and the past twenty years in Lake Charles for Johnson Funeral Home. During his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, boating and taking his children for fun and adventure to swim parks, amusement parks and zoos. He enjoyed going to dinner and cooking for family and friends: barbeque, boiled crabs and crawfish were his specialty. His greatest times were shared traveling to spend time with his children and their families and simply watching TV in the evenings with his wife. Mr. Fluitt will be most remembered as a true gentleman, as well as for his laughter and unique sense of humor.
He leaves to honor his memory, his wife, Mary Crafts Fluitt of Lake Charles; four children, Christopher Steven Fluitt of Richmond, TX, Rachel Fluitt Miller (Samuel) of Brentwood, TN, Jason Fluitt (Raygan) of Many and Tim Fluitt (Karen) of Hornbeck; eleven grandchildren, Alejandro and Presley Fluitt, Jackson, Emmaline and William Miller and Neely, Bell, Amelia, Nikki, Victoria and Patrick Fluitt; twin sister, Martha Jane Blackmon of Dequincy and nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Sadie Mae Hyatt, niece, Stephanie Hines, nephew, Jack Hyatt, Jr. and grand-nephew, Dallas Yellott.
Graveside services will be at 12:00 PM Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at the Masonic Cemetery in Dequincy. Reverend Ronnie Estes will officiate. Visitation Tuesday will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Lake City Baptist Church in Lake Charles.
In accordance with state Covid regulations, attendees for services are respectfully requested to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.
