Arthurine Istre Witherwax

Arthurine Hanks Istre Witherwax, 76, first married to Noah Istre and then to Elbert H. Witherwax, died on Sunday, September 14, 2014 in her residence. Mrs. Witherwax was born July 31, 1938 in Gueydan, LA and lived in Lake Charles since 1947. She was the owner and operator of Witherwax Flower World and Catering. She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Altar Society. She enjoyed decorating St. Joseph's Altar and the Altar at St. Henry's Catholic Church. Mrs. Witherwax is survived by her daughters, Becky Istre Holden and husband Albert "Dewey" of Moss Bluff and Sally Marie Fontenot Jackson of Iowa, LA; sons, Jeffery Paul Istre of Chandler, AZ and Kim Michael Witherwax of Lake Charles; brothers, Wilfred Wade Hanks and wife Coran, Leonard Wayne "Doc" Hanks and wife Linda, Anthony Hanks and wife Tammy; sister, Stella Hanks Heard and husband Chester; eleven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert H. Witherwax; son, Nolan Lee Istre; and great-granddaughter, Lillian Jane Fontenot. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at St. Henry Catholic Church. Monsignor Daniel Torres will officiate. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
