Arvel Bruce "A.B." West

Arvel Bruce “A.B.” West, 92, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 in a local hospital.  Mr. West was born on December 28, 1928 in Hornbeck, La. to Estie and Hope Christie Chance West.

Arvel served his country in the United States Army as a truck driver during the Korean Conflict. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Gillis where he was chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee for several years.  He had a servant’s heart and was always working around the church.  Arvel retired as an operator at LyondellBasell and enjoyed fishing, was an avid gardener and he was a skilled paint and body work mechanic.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Ronny West. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 69 years, Joyce West; children, Karen Holland and husband Brad, Linda Fontenot and husband Spencer, Nancy Fontenot and husband Brian, Lori Perry and husband Robert, and Keith West and wife Andrea; grandchildren, Bradley Holland, Tracy Matherne, Kimberly Guillory, Brent Fontenot, Derrick Fontenot, Benjamin Perry, Rebekah Potts, Kaci Lindsay, Kileigh Ryan and Korinne West; 10 great grandchildren and a sister, Elaine Humber.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm. on Saturday, February 20, 2021 in First Baptist Church of Gillis with Rev. Glenn George officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00am until service time. Burial will follow at Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery in Longville, La. under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff.
