Arvel "Tubby" Trahan, Jr.

August 30, 1932 — December 20, 2013

Arvel John Tubby Trahan, Jr., 81, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2013 surrounded by his loved ones. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Theresas Catholic Church in Sulphur, LA. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss, LA under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the church hall at 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2013 with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. and resume on Monday from 8 am until the time of service. As a boy, Arvel played football for Hackberry and he drew the mascot Hackberry Mustang for their yearbook. As a man, Arvel served in the United States Army as a medic during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the pipefitters local 106. He was a member of St. Theresas Catholic Church for 46 years. He was instrumental in establishing the 24 hour Adoration Chapel and the rosary before masses. He was a member of the parish council, taught CCD, ushered, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. He loved his Lord and his church and continually evangelized his love. His goal was to bring people to Christ. He was a great Cajun story teller and loved to joke with his wife. He loved dancing, French music, football, and Christmas. He was a living example of what being a husband, father, grandfather, and friend should be and will be missed by many. Arvel was a gifted artist and family man. Arvel is survived by his wife of 62 years, Veronica Murrell Tut Trahan; four daughters, Cindy Trahan, Gwen (David) Hughes, Angie Clark, and Mitzi (Robert) Spears; seven grandchildren, Cody Clark and wife Courtney, Erin Bahnsen and husband Zach, Brittney Menard and husband Trent, Markie Hebert and husband Clay, Tyler Spears, Jonathan Hughes and wife Rhonda, and Dant Hughes; and five great grandchildren, Aubrie Bahnsen, Carter Menard, Chandler Clark, Noah Hebert, and Sawyer Hughes. Arvel was preceded in death by his parents, Arvel John, Sr. and Hulda Granger Trahan; older sister, Joyce Lee Seay; twin sister, Arlene Pookie Vallette; and great grandson, Cruz Allen Clark. The family would like to especially thank Southern Home Health nurse Mike Kelley and from Heart of Hospice, Kim Johnson and Christina Griffin. We thank them for their demonstration of love, respect, and their dignity towards life shared with Arvel and his family during his lengthy illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that masses be said. Words of comfort may be shared at www.robisonfuneralhome.com
