Audrey Ann Murphy

August 14, 1935 — January 17, 2022

Audrey Ann Granger Murphy, 86, of Lake Charles passed away Monday, January 17, 2022 in a local healthcare facility.

Mrs. Murphy was born the youngest of seven children to Theogene Granger and Aurora Duplechain Granger in Mamou, LA where she was raised.  A graduate of Mamou High School, she worked at the  movie theater in Mamou where she met her husband.   Once married, Audrey loved being a homemaker and raising her daughter in Grand Chenier.  It was not until the mid-sixties that they moved to the Lake area.  She worked many years at K-Mart where she enjoyed the friendship of co-workers and visiting with customers.  Mrs. Murphy was perfectly happy with the simpler side of life; flower gardening, weekly visits to her hairdresser,  Saturday evening trips to Lafayette for dinner and dancing,  events of good food, family, friends and more dancing and travels.  All of which were most often as a family with her husband, daughter, son-in-law and grandson.  Her greatest times were spent dancing the jitterbug with her daughter.  Her greatest joy, watching her grandson grow into a successful man and admirable father.  Mrs. Murphy will be most remembered for her love and devotion to her family.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her grandson, Aaron Murphy Ardoin of Richmond, TX; great-grandson, Cooper James Ardoin of Richmond, TX; son-in-law, Melvin “Cowboy” Ardoin of Lake Charles and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, David Murphy; daughter, Brenda Murphy Ardoin; parents and six siblings, Elton, Guston, Bertha, Morris, Hermie Mae, and Herman Granger.

Graveside services will be at 3:00 PM Friday, January 21, 2022 at Prien Memorial Park under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Deacon Harold Nixon will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org/louisiana.
