Audrey Marie Chafin, age 89, of Lake Charles, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2011.
Audrey was born December 13, 1921 in Cleburne, Texas to Ernest and Pearl Lane. She grew up in Ball, Louisiana and graduated from Tioga High School. She and her husband, Branch Chafin, were married for fifty years and lived most of their lives in Lake Charles where they raised their children. Audrey was a loving mother and grandmother who put all her children's needs before her own.
Audrey loved working in her flower beds and was known for her beautiful yards. She was an accomplished seamstress and an avid reader. Audrey was a member of Sale Street Baptist Church in Lake Charles for many years and performed volunteer work for the Craft Ladies Organization, sewing clothing for dolls donated to the Women's Shelter.
Audrey is preceded in death by her parents, husband Branch, son Bob and sister Margie Estes. She is survived by daughters, Linda Mount and husband Ronnie, Charlotte Charlet and husband Chuck, son Scott Chafin and wife Yvonne, grandchildren Pat Mount, Todd Mount, Chad Charlet, Christa Comeaux, Scott Chafin, Jr. , Michael Chafin, sisters Edith Salter, Carol Stafford, brothers Doug Lane John Nalley and five great grandchildren.
The family extends its thanks to the fifth floor staff of Lafayette General Hospital for their care during Audrey's time in the hospital. The family also wishes to extend special appreciation to Mary LeBlanc, Samantha Joubert and Hospice of Acadiana for their comfort and compassion.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 10, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. J.P. Miles will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of services.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Acadiana or the Sale Street Baptist Church building fund.
