Audrey Simon Abshire

Audrey Rita Garrie Simon Abshire, 86, of Lake Charles, LA died at 1:10 AM on Saturday, March 15, 2014 in a local care facility. Mrs. Abshire was born July 26, 1927 in Rayne, LA and has lived in Lake Charles since 1947. She was a past member of St. Henry Catholic Church, where she served on the Ladies Altar Society and was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church. Mrs. Abshire worked at Rosteet Elementary and Brentwood Elementary, where she retired as a Cafeteria Manager after twenty years of service. She was also a member of the Gold Star Mothers, Ladies Fraternal Order of Police and the Good Sam Club. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery, and sewing, and loved to cook for her family. Mrs. Abshire is survived by her sons, Rodney Simon, Jr. and wife Faye of Luling, LA and Michael Simon, of Eunice; daughters, Gail Morris and husband Duane of Lake Charles and Tina Darnsteadt and husband Kenneth of Carlyss; brother, Donald Garrie; sister, Eunice LeBlanc, both of Crowley; seven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Rodney Simon; one son, Tommy Simon; daughter-in-law, Loretta Tate Simon; and great-granddaughter, Erin Courville. Her funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Father Bill Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 11:40 AM with a rosary at 10:30 AM.
