Augustus “Gus” Michael Mayo, 21, of Lake Charles died at 12:09 AM on Monday, June 13, 2016 at Lafayette General Medical Center from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Friday.
Gus was born on November 18, 1994 in Lake Charles where he lived and attended St. Louis Catholic High School and Barbe High School. He held many jobs from surveying, to information technology, but his favorite job was working at Greengate Garden Center. He was currently working as a night stocker at Wal-Mart. Gus liked computer gaming, music, reading, and drawing. He enjoyed rainy days, spending time gardening with his dad, and sleeping with his dogs. And Gus loved his new motorcycle.
For many years, Gus fought a long hard battle with the overpowering disease of addiction. He graduated from the rehab St. Gregory Retreat Center in Des Moines, IA. He fought a tough fight and in the end he triumphed with sobriety and peace in his search for the greatest Love.
Those left to cherish his memory are his dedicated parents, Mike and Lisa Mayo of Lake Charles; a loving sister, Jessen Mayo of Lake Charles; maternal grandmother, Ella Jessen Tan and step-father Eduardo of New York; his dog, Nugget; two foster dogs, Livie and Dolph; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves behind many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Weldon Barres will officiate. Cremation will follow services under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home with inurnment being held at a later date in the church columbarium. A rosary will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday followed by visitation from 3:30 PM until 9:00 PM in the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the start of service in the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to March for Life, the local animal shelter, Donate Life America, or St. Gregory Retreat Center.
