Barbara Ann Whitson

Barbara Ann MacFarland Whitson, 62, of Gillis, LA died at 10:58 AM on Saturday, June 8, 2013 in a local hospital.


Mrs. Whitson was born October 30, 1950 in Lake Charles, LA, was a 1970 graduate of Lake Charles High School and attended Sowela Technical School. She lived in Gillis for the past 35 years. She retired from the Moss Bluff Wal-Mart after twenty years of service and was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church. She will be remembered for her smile, her green thumb and her ability to make friends with everyone she met. Mrs. Whitson also enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading.


Mrs. Whitson is survived by her husband of forty-one years, Ted Whitson; son, Michael Paul Whitson, both of Gillis; father-in-law, Edwin Pierce Whitson of Sulphur; brother-in-law, David Whitson; and sisters-in-law, Priscilla DiLorenzo and husband Steve and Alice Regan and husband Jeff; and her nieces and nephews, Randy, Robby, Pam and Kevin Richard, Jennifer Offut and husband Kevin, Megan Gallagher, Emily Prescia and husband Sal, Jason and Katherine Whitson, and Kelly and Ryan Regan.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Frances Hamilton MacFarland; grandparents, Samuel and Fedora Hamilton; half-brother, Roy MacFarland; and half-sister, Jean Kelly.


Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles on Tuesday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM and continue on Wednesday at the church from 9:00 AM until the start of the service. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at St. Theodore Catholic Church. Monsignor Charles Dubois will officiate. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery.
