Barbara Anne Romero Matte, of Lake Charles, LA, passed away on October 1, 2014. She lived her 71 years to the fullest, enjoying every minute she had with her family that she held so dear. She was born on August 4, 1943 to Raymond and Mildred Romero. She grew up in Sulphur, LA and later married Ervin Matte, with whom she spent the last fifty-three years. His service in the Army took them to Oklahoma where they started a family before returning home to Lake Charles. She was a mother of six children, but no one came to her house without leaving with a full stomach and feeling as though they were one of her own. It was her kind heart, giving spirit, and talents in the kitchen that made Barbara Anne Romero Matte the woman that so many will miss dearly. Her greatest joy was having her family together for holidays and special events. She enjoyed listening and dancing to Cajun music as well as loving on all her grandkids. Mrs. Matte was a faithful member of Christ the King Catholic Church in South Lake Charles. She spent every Sunday in a church pew worshipping the God she loved. We all take joy in knowing that she greeted Jesus with her big beautiful smile as he wrapped his arms around her. She had a special love for her family. She is survived by her husband, Ervin Matte; brothers, Carroll (Kathy), Randy, and Cecil Romero; six children, Brian (Theresa), Christopher (Andrea), and Paul (Jeanelle) Matte, Julie Saxby, Angie (Ernest) Fruge, and Amanda (Brady) Fontenot; thirteen grandchildren, Matthew (Destiney) Saxby, Eric, Tyler, Seth, Taylor, Shelby, and Hunter Matte, Bayleigh and Greyson Fruge, Luke Saxby, Brayden, Aubrey, and Baylor Fontenot; and one great-grandchild, Evelynn Saxby. Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Fathers Tony Fontenot and Wayne LeBleu will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a scripture service and rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday at the funeral home from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
