Barbara Jean Lewis, AKA “Bobby”, 75 of Lake Charles, Louisiana inherited her wings on March 25, 2018.

She was born to Vincent and Lillian Antoine on November 8, 1942. Barbara attended Washington High School. She enjoyed basketball at Washington High School and truly loved watching professional basketball. She was united in marriage on March 18, 1961 to Abbie Lewis of Ville Platte, Louisiana. Barbara Lewis was the owner of Lewis Texaco in Lake Charles, LA. She spent 25 years in Ragley, Louisiana, where she enjoyed gardening, fishing, preserving fruit, baking, raising cattle, and taking care of her horses. Barbara worked so hard for her family and always put herself last, never first.

She leaves cherished memories to her children whom was shown love even from her bedridden state. Two sons, Michael Lewis, and Edward Lewis (the late Melissa Lewis); all of Lake Charles, LA. Three daughters, Jacqueline (Jerry) Fontenot and Ericka (Thomas) Mallett all of Lake Charles, LA, and her precious baby girl Dorothy (Jarrod) Iles of DeRidder, LA. Cotlone, and Jayce Carter Griffin. The best sister-n-law ever, Dorothy (late Calvin) Deshotel. Brothers, Alfred (Mattie), Vincent Jr. (Juanita), Robert, Lawrence, and sister, Juanita Antoine whom she loved until the end. Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends were in her thoughts and prayers.

Dementia never defined our mother and she fought until the end. It is a debilitating disease, yet our mother made it funny and pleasant. We will always take time to understand and respect others whom are going through this disease.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 31 at 11 AM at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, LA. Pastor Clifton David of First Church of God in Christ will officiate services. Burial will follow at Combre Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM until the time of the service.

The family would like to acknowledge private duty sitters, Lorraine and Sherrelle for putting up with us and keeping a smile. Also, the Guardian House especially their administrative team, and Brookdale Assisted Living entirety for continuous care. Amedysis Hospice gave the best to our mother and allowed her last week to be beautiful. Dr. Ameer Khan, we thank you for not giving up on our mother and treating her with respect and not as a number. The most COMPASSIONATE NURSE in the world, Ms. Vicki Roach. Ms. Vicki Roach defines how a patient should be taken care of especially at the end of their glorious years.
