Barbara Lee Ackless - Lewis - Bennett

Barbara Lee Bennett, 73, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 7:50 AM on Saturday, September 30, 2017 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Barbara also known as Bobbie Lee was born April 13, 1944 in Basile, LA and lived most of her life in Lake Charles.  She worked compassionately at Westwood Elementary School for more than thirty years. She was not just devoted to her job, but genuinely cared for the children, teachers and staff.  She was a very active member of Mount Nebo-Saint Paul CME Church, where she served as a Stewardess and Missionary. She was a devoted Past District President of her local church and the district and was very involved with numerous other area organizations.  Barbara always had a big heart for helping others; people seemed to gravitate towards her.  She was a dedicated prayer warrior and loved her family deeply.  She was always giving of herself; God, family, church, community.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Eugene Lewis, Jr. (Sharon) of Lake Charles, Gregory Lewis, Sr. (Leslie) of Westlake, Darrell Lewis, Sr. (Josevette) of Westlake, Michael Lewis (Mona) of Lawrenceville, GA, Annette Bennett of Westlake, and Jacqueline Bennett Pete (Marques, Sr.) of Lake Charles; along with 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, adopted children, and friends and that she loved dearly. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alceila Celestine and Whitney Ackless; first husband, Eugene Lewis, Sr.; second husband, Jack Warren Bennett; and her siblings three brothers and two sisters.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.  Presiding Elder Dr. H. Leon Williams, Sr. will officiate and her Pastor, Reverend Leslie Dugas, Jr. will do the eulogy.  Burial will follow in Perkins Cemetery in Westlake, LA.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
