Barbara Sue Robinson Karkalits, 80, of Lake Charles, passed away on Thursday June 1, 2017.
Barbara was born and raised in Houston, Texas and moved to Lake Charles when her husband was recruited to start the engineering department at McNeese State University. She was a graduate of Texas Christian University where she was active in the Delta Gamma Sorority. She remained active with the alumni association of both the university and sorority and was a true Horned Frog fan, especially with football. Barbara was a woman of many talents and interests including photography, painting, the stock market, and she even scored two hole-in-ones playing golf with her father! She was an award winning photographer and talented artist.
After moving to Lake Charles, Barbara raised her two daughters and found time to graduate from McNeese State University with her MBA. She was active with the Lake Charles Panhellenic Association and PEO International. She embraced the Word of God and always led bible studies whenever she could.
Barbara will be most remembered for being a gracious hostess, always willing to open her home to entertain & feed others. She and her husband, the late Dr. Carroll Karkalits, were Sunday School leaders at Trinity Baptist Church in Lake Charles.
Preceding Barbara in death are her parents, Robert George and Hattie Evelyn Lewis Robinson and her beloved husband of over 51 years, Dr. Olin Carroll Karkalits. She is survived by her two daughters, Kay Karkalits Marcantel and husband Michael E. Marcantel and Karen Karkalits Litel and husband Trey Litel; and grandchildren, Sean Michael Marcantel, Collier Thomas Litel, Charles Monroe Litel, Mary Kathleen Marcantel, and Conrad Stone Litel.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday June 4, 2017 and will continue on Monday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, all at Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Randy Monroe officiating. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery.
Pallbearers for her service will be her sons-in-law and grandsons: Mike, Trey, Sean, Collier, Charlie, and Conrad.
The family would like to express appreciation and gratitude for the dedicated care givers who helped Barbara. The love and amazing care from the staff at the Guardian, Dr. Peter Karam and nurse practitioner Karrie Savoie will always be remembered in our prayers.
