Barry Lane Dawson

Barry Lane Dawson, 73, of Moss Bluff passed away at 3:40 PM on Friday, October 29, 2021 in a local hospital after a lengthy illness that he managed with strength and grace. 

Mr. Dawson was born on January 15, 1948 in Iota, LA where he was raised and was a 1966 graduate of Iota High School.  In 1981 he moved to Westlake and later attended McNeese State University where he graduated in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in education.  Following high school, Mr. Dawson worked in the oil field offshore for Texaco and during college he was a salesman at Gaidry’s Menswear.  After receiving his degree in teaching he taught in Calcasieu Parish for 10 years and West Orange Stark for another 10 years before retiring.  Upon retirement, he was a substitute teacher for Calcasieu Parish.  He was an active and dedicated member of First Pentecostal Church in Westlake where he was involved in Sunday school, served as an usher, and sang in the choir.

In his spare time, Mr. Dawson enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, and cheering on the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints.  His most cherished time was spent with his family who affectionately called him “Pops.”  Mr. Dawson loved, respected, and was loyal to his wife, children, and grandchildren.  He will be remembered for his positive and encouraging spirit and always being helpful any way he could. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 40 years, Marion Green Dawson of Moss Bluff; children, Mike Dawson (Julie) of Lafayette, Bryant (Melissa) of Mammoth Lake, CA, Bethyn’ Broxson (Anthony) of Moss Bluff, and Nanette Pascale (Shawn) of Moss Bluff; a sister, Glenda Robinson of Iota; and beloved grandchildren, Sydney Dawson, Oaklyn Hazel Broxson, and Deacon Bodhi Broxson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Joe Dawson; in-laws, Hazel and Leroy Green; and brother-in-law, Russel Robinson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at the First Pentecostal Church of Westlake in the gymnasium.  The Rev. Mark R. Stanton will officiate.  Cremation will follow the service under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM and continue until the start of the service.
