Barry Michael Reed

September 19, 1950 — June 10, 2016

Barry Michael Reed, age 65, passed away Friday, June 10, 2016 in Houston, Texas.

Born September 19, 1950 in New Orleans, Louisiana, Barry was raised in Lake Charles. He was of the Catholic faith.  He was a Boy Scout and earned his Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow.  He graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1969 and later attended LSU and McNeese State University.

Throughout his life, he had a variety of careers. His first was working alongside his father at Reed Surveying.  His last was working alongside his best buddy, Rick, as the equipment coordinator for a recovery and restoration company servicing major catastrophic events.

He enjoyed the outdoors, whether working or having fun…preferably with his favorite country/western station playing in the background.  He had a quick wit, good sense of humor and enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends.

Barry is survived by his mother, Verlise Hollier Reed of Lake Charles; his sister, Christy Reed Jordan (Phil) of Mandeville and their children; his devoted companion and friend, Geraldine “Geri” Croft of Houston, Tx. and her family; Rick Rose of Hempstead, Texas, who was like a brother to him; Rick’s sons and Barry’s favorite little visitors, Cade, Jake and Rye who always brought a smile to his face; and numerous relatives, neighbors and friends in Louisiana and Texas who walked with him through his life. Last, but not least, his beloved little dog, “Daisy,” who often comforted him by lying in his lap while he was sleeping.

A memorial celebration will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Consolata Cemetery in Lake Charles. Monsignor Charles Dubois will officiate.
