Bascum Benoit

Bascum J. Benoit, 87, of Lake Charles, LA died at 11:00 PM on Thursday, July 18, 2013 in a local hospital.


Mr. Benoit was born September 11, 1925 in Gueydan, LA, lived in Grand Lake most of his life before moving to Lake Charles thirty years ago. He worked for Iron Workers Local #678 and was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved his church and family and enjoyed gardening. He was always proud of his vehicles and loved taking trips to Branson, MO with his wife.


Mr. Benoit is survived by his wife, Patsy Carpenter Benoit; daughters, Becky Trahan and husband Ted of Lake Charles and Jackie Kidder and husband Mark of Conroe, TX; son, Lee Allen Benoit and wife Carol of Grand Lake; brother, Walter Benoit of Lake Charles; sisters, Ruby Peshoff and husband Gilbert of Lake Charles and Mary Lou Nastri of Pennsylvania five grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two step-children and a sister-in-law Mamie Carpenter.


He was preceded in death by his son, Danny Lee Benoit; parents, Tolbert and Cora Moore Benoit; and a great-granddaughter, Lindsey Benoit.


His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 22, 2013 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Father Alan Trouille will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a scripture service and rosary at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM.


Pallbearers will be Scott Nunez, Randy Nunez, Kerry Benoit, Kevin Benoit, Devon Benoit, and Jarrett Nunez; and honorary pallbearers, Nicholas Benoit and Tanner Benoit.
