Becky Jane Perera

August 30, 1958 — September 12, 2021

Becky Jane Perera was born on August 30, 1958 in Houma, Louisiana to Robert A. and Barbara A. Bonnette.

She attended and graduated from H. L. Bourgeois High School, class of 1976, then went on to attend Nicholls State University, earning an associate degree in Respiratory Therapy.

She was a dutiful and loving wife and mother, nothing brought her more joy than to spend time with her family. She loved to cook and was the chef of the family. She was married to her spouse for over 42 years and was adored by her husband that never left her side. Her children were always embraced with big hugs and kisses and always felt her love with those embraces.

She was employed at Prevost Memorial Hospital as a Respiratory Therapist before becoming ill, a career she found most rewarding. She was humble yet proud of the countless patients she cared for.

Her personality lit up the room when she entered, always greeting people with a smile, and she never met a stranger. She loved to sing, Bette Midler being her favorite artist, her children loved listening to her, as she had the voice of an angel.

In her later years, as she became “Marmie” she loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren, doting on them as she did her own, spoiling them every way possible before they left. She ensured they knew how much she loved them.

She was welcomed into Heaven on September 12, 2021 by her father, Robert Bonnette; a brother, Matthew Bonnette; grandparents, Gillis and Jane Robicheaux & Etienne and Eva Bonnette; in-laws, Clarence and Neva Perera.

Those left to cherish her memory: her husband Joey Perera; children, Bernie and Amanda Perera, Anthony and Jennifer Perera, Melissa and Amy LeBrun, Seth and Miranda Perera; eleven grandchildren; her mother, Barbara Bonnette; brothers, Tony Bonnette, Michael Bonnette, and James Bonnette; sisters Bridget Mardis and Jennifer Donavon.

Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. In honor of her memory and many years of dutiful care as a respiratory therapist, the family invites you to make a donation in her memory to the American Respiratory Care Foundation.
