Becky Martin

Mary Rebecca “Becky” Hopkins Martin, 77, of Sulphur, LA passed away Wednesday, January 3^rd, 2023 in a local healthcare facility.

Ms. Martin was born April 24, 1946 to William Henry Hopkins and Flora Mae Jones Hopkins in Sapulpa, OK.  She lived most of her life in Westlake.  She was a graduate of LaGrange Senior High School and McNeese State University where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Science.  She returned to LaGrange Senior High to begin her teaching career in Math and Science, later transferred to Westlake High School and retired after fifteen years as Homebound teacher throughout Calcasieu Parish.  Ms. Martin took a short break from her teaching career during which time she worked five years in the lab at P.P.G. Industries.  She enjoyed younger years of camping with her family, lawn work and flower gardening.  Her downtime was often spent with a pet on her lap watching her favorite sitcoms.  Ms. Martin will be most remembered for her kind heart and compassion for others.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Robert Martin and wife Melissa; three grandchildren, Abigail Farmer, Samatha Martin and Nikolas Martin and  three nieces, Deborah Jarrett, Cathy Smith, Brenda Rose and dear friend, Kathy Lafley.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Sue Young.

In respect of her wishes, Memorial services will be Monday, March 11, 2024 in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home. Inurnment services will follow at Consolata Cemetery.  Visitation Monday will be from 9:30 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
