Bennie Lee Monroe

February 2, 1933 — February 9, 2018

Bennie Lee Monroe, 85, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 10:59 AM on Friday, February 9, 2018 in his residence.

Mr. Monroe was born February 2, 1933 in Glenmora, LA, where he was a 1951 graduate of Glenmora High School and served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked for twenty-five years as a personnel manager at Cities Service, retiring in 1979. Following his retirement, Mr. Monroe continued to operate Monroe Printing, where he mentored numerous youth in the community. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Charles and attended Trinity Baptist Church. When his sons were younger, he coached Little League and Legion Ball. Not everyone knew, but if there was a need, and he became aware of it, Mr. Monroe would do whatever he could to make it happen. Whether donating resources or printing or expertise, he would do all he could to achieve the goal - and often it was all done anonymously. He had a great love for his family and will be missed dearly.

Mr. Monroe is survived by his sons, Mike Monroe and wife Jan, Randy Monroe and wife Anne, and Jeff Monroe and wife Mary, all of Lake Charles; sisters, LaMerle Rhame of Anahuac, TX and Eunice Daniels of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Jennifer Jambon, Jessica Bradley, Joshua Monroe, Caleb Monroe, Stephen Monroe, Scott Monroe and Kathryn Doyle; and great-grandchildren, Morgan Calhoun, Vivianna Bradley, Weston Bradley, Cash Monroe, Emily Monroe, Hayes Monroe, Brady Monroe, Benjamin Monroe, Kipton Monroe, Hannah Monroe, Andrew Doyle and Eli Doyle.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara “Bobbye” Shelton Monroe; parents, Archie and Eula Monroe; brothers, Otis Monroe, Archie Monroe, and Jay Monroe; sister, Laverne Johnson; and one grandchild, Mallory Monroe.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. His son, Randy Monroe will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.

The family would like to express a special word of thanks to his caregiver, Linda Wells, for the care and compassion given.
